Today's TV: A new age of Hollywood movie brats

During the 1970s, Hollywood flourished with intelligent and successful films. From The Godfather, to Shampoo, Taxi Driver, Jaws and Apocalypse Now, this era is often dubbed the golden age. The leaders of this group, directors Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, not only managed to make personal films through the studio system, but became famous in the process as "the movie brats." Nearly 30 years later, Imagine focuses on a new group of American directors who are also making original, unusual films within the Hollywood system – Wes Anderson, Alexander Payne, David O Russell, Richard Linklater, Noah Baumbach, Bryan Singer, Kimberly Peirce and Sofia Coppola. Like their 1970s forerunners, these new movie brats aim to make personal films that express their own distinctive voices.
